Horton the Elephant

This costume was constructed from a pajama pattern.

In order to add the wrinkles, I added 2″ length every 2″ of the pattern, then pleated it to form the folds.

Of course, doubling the length of the shirt, even with the folds, made it a little droopy in front, so I reinforced the folds so they wouldn’t sag by stitching elastic to the inside of the pleats.

I originally used cord to hold the pleats in place, but the wicked Wickersham brothers snapped the cords when they grabbed Horton in one of the scenes at dress rehearsal.
